HUGH ABERCROMBIE
​
HUGH STARTED HIS JOURNEY OVER TEN YEARS AGO. HE IS CURRENTLY A 4 STRIPE BROWN BELT AND IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE HIS BLACK BELT IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. FOR MOST OF HIS JIU JITSU JOURNEY HE WAS A STUDENT OF GRACIE BARRA UNDER BRAULIO ESTIMA WHOM HE IS A BROWN BELT UNDER. HE HAS SINCE MOVED TO CONTINUE INSTRUCTION UNDER NORBERT NOWAK A GRACIE BARRA BLACK BELT WHO IS AFFILIATED WITH ZE RADIOLA. THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT JIU JITSU KNOW THE LINEAGE IS ONE OF THE VERY BEST AND MOST RESPECTED. AS SUCH HUGH HAS A GREAT KNOWLEDGE OF JIU JITSU AND CAN GET ACROSS ALL THOSE INTRICATE DETAILS THAT SEPERATE THE GOOD FROM GREAT. FOR OVER 4 YEARS HUGH HAS FOUNDED AND RAN WOLVERHAMPTON BJJ. HE HAS PRODUCED MULTIPLE CHAMPIONS IN BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU AND AMATUER MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. HUGH BELIEVES IN HARD WORK AND PRODUCING RESULTS AS SUCH HIS COMPETITION TEAM WINS A LOT OF MEDALS THROUGHOUT EUROPE. IT HAS BEEN COMMON PLACE FOR VISITORS WITH HIGHER BELTS TO STRUGGLE AGAINST THE WHITE BELTS UNDER HUGH. HUGHS REASON FOR THIS IS A SIMPLE ONE. HE FOCUSES ON COMPETITION SPARRING SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK WHILE HONING TECHNIQUES AND ADDING PARTS OF AN INDIVIDUALS GAME IN A LIVE ENVIRONMENT. THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELF.
COACH RICHARD HICKLIN

BLUE BELT UNDER HUGH ABERCROMBIE - NORBERT NOWAK ZE RADIOLA
Richard teaches the foundation course to beginners. He has over four years of experience in Jiu Jitsu and recently picked up a silver medal at the British Open - regarded as one of the top competitions in the UK.
Being small in stature he has a very technical game and is known as a wizard with the Lapel. Due to being small he has had to work even more so on controls and a game to defeat a bigger stronger individual. The very definition of Jiu Jitsu. He has a great teaching capacity where he is able to get all the details across to beginners in a way anyone can understand.
A valued member of Wolverhampton BJJ Richard continues to work hard and impress on the matts. Be sure to catch one of his classes and learn some great techniques.

COACH BEN EDGE

BLUE BELT UNDER HUGH ABERCROMBIE - NORBERT NOWAK ZE RADIOLA
Ben is a staple of wolverhampton BJJ and has been present since the forming of the team alongside Hugh. He has won many competitions but concentrates more on the teaching side of things now. He takes classes for children and has a very good methodology.
Being a school teacher in the daytime you can really tell how that translates into his teaching of Jiu Jitsu. Ben connects very well with the children able to explain on a level that even our six year olds can understand. He is a very patient member of the coaching time and is always happy to help and give extra attention to anyone struggling with a technique or concept.
Ben likes to break down techniques into smaller segments in a way so the children can develop muscle memory and easier understanding of the intricacies.

COACH DARREN VELASQUES
​
Darren has been with wolverhampton bjj for just under two years. An experienced martial artist, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team and to his classes. He has been training Nogi grappling and MMA for over six years and has trained with many of the top fighters in the UK.
He has had several fights himself losing his last fight by split decision in a close contest - his opponent went on to a title shot in the organisation. He is also the current British MMA champion of the WFMC. Alongiside this in his last grappling competition he took Gold with a win over a purple belt of Gracie Barra. Darren teaches nogi and white collar MMA and has a great teaching ability to breakdown the small details of control. He also helps a lot with the takdown programme for the club.

COACH DEAN WILLIAMS
​
Dean is a highly experienced mma and bjj competitior a martial artist of ten years. He has fought many times and one of his last outings was again top uk prospect Tim the experiement Wilde. Dean is a Blue Belt in BJJ under the highly regarded ICON Jiu jitsu team and now teaches the kids mma programme at Wolves BJJ.
​
His years of experience have made him an excellent coach and Dean who has now retired from mma competition is keen to develop everyone who enters his classes regardless of ability and build them into champions. Classes are suitable from beginners through to advanced. The programme is catered to involve mainly 8 - 18 year olds. With the club and classes always growing soon we are hoping for an MMA Competition team.
